Open thread to discuss Scottsdale, Land of the Fake

March 26, 2008 by Frank · 28 Comments

I’m outta here for a week and am not bringing the laptop so here’s an open thread while I’m away. I’m expecting dozens of hilarious comments and banter when I return so don’t disappoint me! (Spam robots will undoubtedly post a bunch of crap since this will be open & unmoderated so just ignore their crap.)

Here are a few recent gems to spark the discussion -

“My suggestion to you is that you petition the Scottsdale City Council/Mayor/City Manager/Chamber of Commerce to cease advertising Scottsdale as an upscale/wealthy/upper-middle class/rich community. Scottsdale is a lower-middle class community and nothing more. The fact that this hype was able to fool Fidelity goes to show how far Scottsdale took this false advertising.” – MG

“Scottsdale is trash. The reason why it deserves to be blasted is because everyone thinks it’s such a great place to live. Every night when I drive home, I lock my doors, roll up my windows, and look no one in the eye that’s on the street. Why is that? Gangs. I do not allow my wife to go to the gym by herself. I don’t allow her to walk the dog by herself, mainly because of fear. There is too much shit going around these neighborhoods that I’m ready to get the hell out of.” – Henry

Or this gem – Scottsdale residents pushing for construction of a cutesy, artist-designed bridge over the sewage canal at an estimated cost of $1.7 million – apparently these are the same people who oppose building anything that might actually HELP the area … nope … instead let’s build an artsy fartsy $1.7 million dollar bridge over the little sewage canal. I can see them all high-fiving each other right now: “THIS will finally put us on the map!!”

Anyway, have fun!

EDIT – It’s Wednesday, 4/2 and I’m back in town so all previous threads are re-opened to comments and moderation is turned back on.

Hello Mr. Harvey:

We all understand that “that no city is without its fair share of problems.” We get it. My suggestion to you is that you petition the Scottsdale City Council/Mayor/City Manager/Chamber of Commerce to cease advertising Scottsdale as an upscale/wealthy/upper-middle class/rich community. Scottsdale is a lower-middle class community and nothing more. The fact that this hype was able to fool Fidelity goes to show how far Scottsdale took this false advertising.

Houston does not advertise itself as upscale whereas Scottsdale does. Frank is merely trying to educate inquirers regarding this situation.

“Sorry, but Scottsdale sucks”

March 25, 2008 by Frank · Leave a Comment

Interesting … someone posted this rant on Phoenix Craigslist:

I feel bad for all the people that live here. There is nothing to do. I’m currently holed up in my hotel room on Scottsdale road, the road with 40 other hotels just like mine, feeling boredom beat its way around the inside of my skull. Why are there so many hotels? What attracts people to this place? I suppose if I was a 20 something, I could go to some bar in old town, but honestly, those places looked pretty lame. But I can’t even do that, because I’m 18 and I know no one. I have a hotel room to myself, I should be using it. The only opportunity for fun would be the front desk girl that I was flirting with, but shit, she’s like 25 and probably doesn’t get off for another few hours. I’m sorry but I’m pissed off at this town for being so goddamned bland.”

What this poor visitor doesn’t know is that Scottsdale actually TRIES to be bland and demonizes any attempts to build anything interesting at all!

“Here is a crazy thought…. why not put in approved Voter desired stadiums. The first option could possibly be a new home for the Coyotes. The Cardinals also might be interested in a new home. WAIT… you passed on that already…. Mary Manross and Jan Dolan are as narrow minded, self-corrupt, and arrogant as they come. The city council should no longer be allowed private sessions, as only negativity comes from any of the decisions that are made behind closed doors. If they cannot legislate openly in from of those that they are to represent, perhaps they should realize they are no longer fit to hold the position. Shame on them and the tarnish on all that Herb Drinkwater accomplished in helping make Scottsdale one of the best cities in the United States to live in. Under current leadership I was excited to move elsewhere, where my vote and desires as a citizen actually still count.”

What happens when you raise kids in Scottsdale

March 25, 2008 by Frank · 1 Comment

Anyone who has lived in Scottsdale knows firsthand how rude, obnoxious, spoiled and bratty the kids are compared to other cities. Here’s an article about a group of Scottsdale teens who severely vandalize cars, vending machines, and other private property and proudly display their “work” on YouTube.

I know at least three people who had their cars vandalized in Scottsdale (windows smashed, etc)… not broken into, but just mindlessly vandalized over the past several years, so this is nothing new, nor is it isolated.

This is what happens when you raise kids in a community with no standards of decency, integrity, honesty, and so on … after all, it’s a town full of phonies, hucksters, and shysters, so the kids who grow up there believe that behavior is normal and they model it.

I’ve said many times that even if I liked Scottsdale enough to live there long-term, I still would choose not to because there’s no way in hell I’d raise kids there. Ever.

I moved to Scottsdale in 2006. From everything I read on the internet, I was thinking this would be such a great place to live as my wife attended the culinary school here.

Scottsdale is trash. The reason why it deserves to be blasted is because everyone thinks it’s such a great place to live. Every night when I drive home, I lock my doors, roll up my windows, and look no one in the eye that’s on the street. Why is that? Gangs.

Classic!

Props to “SuzyQT” on an AZCentral.com discussion thread for this gem of a post regarding Scottsdale:

”COME SMELL OUR BROWN CANALS AND GET YOUR PHOTO TAKEN WITH THE NEW AND IMPROVED PHOTO RADAR. WHAT WAS THAT, THE SUPER BOWL, THE PHOENIX SUNS, THE ARIZONA DIAMOND BACKS, THE ZOO, THE CASINOS, SPRING TRAINING? OH THEY’RE ALL THE OTHER WAY!”

A firsthand demonstration of Scottsdale “class”

March 24, 2008 by Frank · 1 Comment

On my post below, “Does Scottsdale market to the socially psychotic,” our old hyphenated pro-Scottsdale girly man friend left one of his trademark comments, so I posted my reply … instead of responding here on the blog, he actually emailed me directly with the following:

Pure and simple, Frank…You are an ASSHOLE. Seems that you only
post comments from losers such as yourself. You left Arizona because you failed
here. S. California deserves a another fucking loser, like you. By the way do you have
your girlfriend tricking on the Border, or South of the Border?

There you have it – a self-proclaimed upscale, affluent, Scottsdale man for you. (With a hyphenated last name, of course.) And no, I don’t only post comments from people who agree with me. I posted all of yours, didn’t I?

Yeah Steve, I left ugly, dirty, dusty, hotter-than-hell crime ridden Scottsdale because I “failed.” Laughable. By the way, if So Cal is so bad, then why do all of you Scottsdale dirtbags come here every summer for vacation and then go home and rave about how great it is?

Why?

Troon is back in the news today with a shooting

March 24, 2008 by Frank · 9 Comments

Hmm, we had the meth lab busted in Troon last week, then a shooting outside a north Scottsdale bar on Friday night, and now a woman shooting at her crazed white trash boyfriend back up in Troon in the Estancia Golf Club development.

Does anyone still believe there’s any class in north Scottsdale?

What amuses me is the fake snobs who live up in that area have always posted to this blog that all the trash is south of Shea but where they live is high-society and pristine. Now, all of a sudden, the violent crime wave seems to be concentrated in the north.

This is course is because the area was overrun by low-down white trash and illegals for the past 6 years on no-down, no-doc loans. Almost everyone who moved to north Scottsdale from 2002 on did so on liar’s loans. That’s why DC Ranch is overrun by all-night parties complete with drugs and lowriders, and why Troon is now becoming known for meth labs and shootings.

In fact, the phoniness of north Scottsdale is nothing new. As I’ve said many times, I lived off Happy Valley & Pima starting in 2001, in the so-called “affluent” area, and even back then I saw repo men cruising the streets and banging on doors almost daily. I can only imagine how bad it’s gotten post-crash.

Nice going, Scottsdale.

1 dead, 1 wounded in Scottsdale nightclub shooting

March 22, 2008 by Frank · 9 Comments

Classy town Scottsdale is.

One dead, one critically wounded in a shooting last night at Scottsdale & Shea.

Does anyone still want to tell me Scottsdale is “nice,” “upscale,” “affluent,” etc?

Interestingly, Scottsdale & Shea is the #1 place in Scottsdale for bogus DUI arrests. Cops wait around the corner and pull over every car that comes out of the nightclub parking lots. Maybe if they did some real police work instead of busting people for bogus DUIs, incidents like this shooting would be taking place every weekend.
